Chicot County, Arkansas

    County Treasurer - Joni Cannatella

Welcome to the Chicot County Treasurer's Office.

My name is Joni Cannatella, and I was elected to the office of Treasurer in January, 2011.  I am a native of Louisiana, but have called Lake Village and Chicot County my home for 31 years. I have always enjoyed working with the public and it is my pleasure to serve as your treasurer.   I am a member of  the Arkansas County Treasurers Association (ACTA) and attend continuing education seminars quarterly in order to improve financial and management efficiency, share best practices, and stay abreast of changes in Arkansas law.

    What your County Treasurer does:

The County Treasurer is the disbursement officer of the county and is responsible for the custody and disbursement of all county funds.

The Treasurer, therefore, receives county property tax collections, county sales tax collections, county turnback funds, grant funds, fees and fines from other county officials and departments, and revenues from various other sources. The Treasurer, after receiving this revenue, distributes the money to the county funds, schools, cities, fire departments, and various improvements districts in the county.

The Treasurer must keep an accurate and detailed account of all receipts and balances, of the county. The Treasurer is required to make a monthly financial report to the Quorum Court on the fiscal condition of the county.  The Treasurer is responsible for projecting all county revenues and  yearly departmental budgets are based on these projected amounts.

The County Treasurer is required to charge a two percent commission on most funds coming into his/her office. These funds are used to support the office with any excess commission being re-distributed back to the various taxing units.

The Chicot County Treasurer's Office also collects payments for the county solid waste service in the amount of $82.19 per quarter.  An annual payment of $295.88 may be made by March 31 of each year, resulting in a 10% savings.  Payments may be mailed to P O Box 231 Lake Village,  AR  71653.
